On March 26, 2026the Embassy of Japan in Barbados and the Autism Association of Barbados (AAB) held a signing ceremony for their Grassroots Grant Project titled “The Project for Upgrading the Autism Resource Centre and Inclusive Emergency Shelter.”
The project will improve accessibility through the construction of ramps with handrails and strengthen disaster preparedness with the installation of a 1,000gallon water tank, generator, and hurricane-rated window shutters. Once completed, it is hoped that the centre will serve as a safe, fully accessible emergency shelter for persons with disabilities during the hurricane season.
This initiative reflects Japan’s continued commitment to supporting vulnerable populations in Barbados, enhancing disaster resilience, and strengthening cooperation with local partners to promote inclusion, safety, and community wellbeing.
