Barbados citizens or foreign nationals of Visa Exemption countries and regions are not required to obtain a visa for transit purposes (See "the list of visa exemption countries and regions").

For nationals of non-visa exemption countries and regions, please contact your airline(s) to confirm whether or not you will go through the Customs and Immigration area at the transferring airport.

• If you cross the border: You will most likely need a transit visa.
• If you stay in the sterile transit area: You do not need a transit visa.

ℹ️ Important Notice regarding Short-Term Visas

The Embassy may require you to obtain a short-term visa instead of a transit visa depending on your purpose to visit Japan. *You MUST apply for a short-term visit visa if you visit your family or friends in Japan even if your stay is less than 24 hours.
